SOCIAL WORKER LICENSURE IN MISSOURI

Before becoming a social worker in Missouri you must obtain a bachelor’s degree in social work and a social work license, depending on what career path you choose. Missouri offers four types of social work licenses, and there may also be additional requirements such as a background check and clinical supervision based on your goals. Below are the steps on how to obtain social work licenses in Missouri, which was summarized from the Missouri Committee for Social Workers.

1. Earn a CSWE-accredited social work degree

To become a licensed social worker in Missouri, you will have to complete a BSW or Master of Social Work (MSW) program accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE). You can pursue these degrees in Missouri through various formats, including full time, part time and online.

2. Fulfill your social work supervised experience requirement and pass your national/state exams

Missouri has four levels of social workers, according to the state’s licensing board, with increasing requirements:

Licensed baccalaureate social worker (LBSW): A person with an accredited bachelor’s degree in social work that has passed the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) bachelor’s exam. 

Licensed master social worker (LMSW): A person with an accredited master’s degree in social work that has passed the ASWB master’s exam. 

Licensed clinical social worker (LCSW): A person with an accredited master’s or doctorate degree in social work that has passed the ASWB clinical exam. Those looking to attain this license must have also earned 3,000 hours of supervised social work experience.

Licensed advanced macro social worker (LAMSW): A person with an accredited master’s or doctorate degree in social work that has passed the ASWB advanced generalist exam. Those looking to attain this license must have also earned 3,000 hours of supervised macro social work experience.

3. Get licensed

Once you’ve completed your hours and experience, you may apply to become a licensed social worker in Missouri.

LBSW and ASWB will work directly under a fully licensed LCSW and have access to the other therapists and providers in the office.

A Supervision Fee will be assessed in an amount that is determined individually by each supervisor.

The Supervision Fee covers:
•    Individual weekly supervision sessions
•    Group supervision, when feasible
•    Feedback and guidance on growing your private practice, counseling techniques, application of theories, and ethics
•    Review of assessments, case notes, and other documentation, as appropriate
•    Phone or email consultation for emergency or time sensitive situations or events
•    Professional mentoring

Practicum and Internship Students

We are looking for motivated practicum and internship students to join our growing practice.

We are looking for individuals who have a passion for counseling and enjoy working in a collaborative and cohesive team environment. If you want to be surrounded by clinicians who are dedicated to their work and personal growth, then this is the place for you!

This is an on-site position at our office on Tesson Ferry Road where you will have opportunities to interact with the community, receive weekly supervision, learn how a counseling office works, and as an intern, receive opportunities to provide counseling to individual clients. 

Our team is quickly expanding and we are excited to invite more students to join us as we grow and continue to serve our community.

We want you to set your own schedule, see the clients you want to work with, build your ideal caseload and enjoy the work you do.

We believe in supporting clinicians in doing what they enjoy most. We have created a warm and supportive environment that allows you to focus on clinical work, learning, growing and thriving as a clinician and a person.

WHAT WE DO:

We have built a team of highly specialized counselors whose areas of expertise include: addictions, adolescents, young adults, anxiety, depression, autism, ADHD, chronic illness, couples counseling (including non-traditional relationships), family therapy, grief, relationships, attachment issues, trauma, men’s issues, OCD, perfectionism, performance anxiety, trauma, career, self-esteem, body images, LGBTQIA+ community members, and trans-youth.

We work with clients of all ages and we provide services to individuals, couples and families across the state of Missouri through in-person, hybrid, and remote counseling.

Our therapists are trained in a variety of modalities including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Counseling, Systemic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Internal Family Systems,  and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Working with us you will have flexibility and autonomy while practicing in a supportive group environment. You will be given referrals, have the opportunity to manage your own caseload, and play an instrumental role in the growth of the company while being provided with the opportunity to broaden your skills and knowledge.

If you are interested in getting involved in the growth of the company, there are always projects being worked on. Projects can include, but are not limited to: marketing, hiring, research, developing new programs for clients, developing resources for clinicians and clients, etc.

You will enjoy the following benefits working with us:

• Greet and assist clients and other guests in a professional, friendly, hospitable manner

• Maintain frequent communication with both own supervisor and office manager to ensure hours/clients are being properly managed

•  Maintain and track front end office supply inventory.

• Maintain good standing with the appropriate board, college and insurance entities.

• Maintain at least 15 sessions a week 

• You will receive weekly individual supervision

• You will be able to attend our team meetings

• Full administrative support: referrals, admin, marketing, and billing

• Hands on experience allowing student to build professional contacts and experience with running a private practice

• School credit, depending on the requirements

• Intern/Practicum student will have the opportunity to shadow a professional

This is an unpaid internship.

We are looking for students who:

•  master level student interns  

• Will provide exemplary clinical care to clients

• Value continuity of care and stay a minimum of 2 semesters

• have minimum of 3.0 GPA and a reasonable work history

• Applicant cannot be a past or present client of the therapists at office  

• Are looking for long-term opportunities

• Will complete clinical documentation in a timely and accurate manner

• Will maintain confidentiality and behave in an professional and ethical manner at all times

• Want to participate in trainings and certifications

• Are willing to be part of a cohesive team

• Are able to manage a caseload independently

• Have excellent computer and organizational skills with an attention to detail
