Practicum and PLPC Supervision Available

Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselors

The requirement for full licensure as a licensed professional counselor includes 3,000 hours of supervision in at least two years, with a minimum of 15 hours per week. We have on-site LPCs who are approved by the Missouri Committee for Professional Counselors to provide supervision to Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselors (PLPCs).  Interested PLPCs must provide their own liability insurance and conduct their practice at our site.

PLPCs will work directly under a fully licensed professional counselor and have access to the other therapists and providers in the office.

 

A Supervision Fee will be assessed in an amount that is determined individually by each supervisor.

The Supervision Fee covers:
•    Individual weekly supervision sessions
•    Group supervision, when feasible
•    Feedback and guidance on growing your private practice, counseling techniques, application of theories, and ethics
•    Review of assessments, case notes, and other documentation, as appropriate
•    Phone or email consultation for emergency or time sensitive situations or events
•    Professional mentoring

COUNSELING LICENSURE IN MISSOURI

Missouri features two levels of licensure:

•   The Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and

•   The Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC)

The LPC is a fully Licensed Professional Counselor and the PLPC is the starter license which allows you to accumulate the experience needed to become an LPC.

The following pre-requisites must be met to become a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) and eventually a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Missouri:

•   Earn a bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science discipline such as counseling, psychology or social work.

•   Earn a master’s degree in counseling from a locally or regionally accredited school.

•   Complete 6 semester hours of practicum during your graduate studies.

•   Pass a criminal background check.

•   Pass the National Counselor Examination (NCE) as administered by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) for the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) title.

•   Pass the Missouri Jurisprudence Exam.

•   Apply to the Missouri Committee for Professional Counselors to receive your Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) title.

•   Accumulate the necessary 3,000 hours of supervision hours with in a 2-5-year time period.

•   Apply to the Missouri Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy to receive your Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) title.


Provisionally Licensed Social Workers

SOCIAL WORKER LICENSURE IN MISSOURI

Before becoming a social worker in Missouri you must obtain a bachelor’s degree in social work and a social work license, depending on what career path you choose. Missouri offers four types of social work licenses, and there may also be additional requirements such as a background check and clinical supervision based on your goals. Below are the steps on how to obtain social work licenses in Missouri, which was summarized from the Missouri Committee for Social Workers.

1. Earn a CSWE-accredited social work degree

To become a licensed social worker in Missouri, you will have to complete a BSW or Master of Social Work (MSW) program accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE). You can pursue these degrees in Missouri through various formats, including full time, part time and online.

2. Fulfill your social work supervised experience requirement and pass your national/state exams

Missouri has four levels of social workers, according to the state’s licensing board, with increasing requirements:

Licensed baccalaureate social worker (LBSW): A person with an accredited bachelor’s degree in social work that has passed the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) bachelor’s exam. 

Licensed master social worker (LMSW): A person with an accredited master’s degree in social work that has passed the ASWB master’s exam. 

Licensed clinical social worker (LCSW): A person with an accredited master’s or doctorate degree in social work that has passed the ASWB clinical exam. Those looking to attain this license must have also earned 3,000 hours of supervised social work experience.

Licensed advanced macro social worker (LAMSW): A person with an accredited master’s or doctorate degree in social work that has passed the ASWB advanced generalist exam. Those looking to attain this license must have also earned 3,000 hours of supervised macro social work experience.

3. Get licensed

Once you’ve completed your hours and experience, you may apply to become a licensed social worker in Missouri.

Practicum and Internship Students

We are looking for motivated practicum and internship students to join our growing practice.

This is an on-site position at our office on Tesson Ferry Road where you will have opportunities to interact with the community, receive weekly supervision, learn how a counseling office works, and as an intern, receive opportunities to provide counseling to individual clients. 

Our team is quickly expanding and we are excited to invite more students to join us as we grow and continue to serve our community.

We have built a team of highly specialized counselors whose areas of expertise include: addictions, adolescents, young adults, anxiety, depression, autism, ADHD, chronic illness, couples counseling (including non-traditional relationships), family therapy, grief, relationships, attachment issues, trauma, men’s issues, OCD, perfectionism, performance anxiety, trauma, career, self-esteem, body images, LGBTQIA+ community members, and trans-youth.

We work with clients of all ages and we provide services to individuals, couples and families across the state of Missouri through in-person, hybrid, and remote counseling.

Our therapists are trained in a variety of modalities including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Counseling, Systemic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Internal Family Systems,  and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
